Mailchimp becomes the source of your wallet passes: PocketPass imports an audience, creates a pass for each contact, and writes the install link and state back onto their record as merge fields.
Connect
Open the Integrations hub, find the Mailchimp card, and choose Connect. Authorise in Mailchimp, then you're returned to PocketPass.
An account connects one CRM at a time. If another CRM is already connected, disconnect it first.
Nominate a primary audience
During setup you choose a primary audience. Mailchimp contacts live inside an audience rather than in one flat list, so PocketPass needs to know which one to work with. The members of the audience you pick become your Customers directory.
Pick the audience your customers actually live in. You can only sync one, so choose the one your passes should come from.
The merge fields PocketPass creates
PocketPass auto-creates five merge fields on your primary audience, kept non-public so they don't show on your signup forms:
| Merge field | What it holds |
|---|---|
PPID | The PocketPass ID |
PPURL | The personal install link |
PPAPPLE | Apple Wallet link |
PPGOOG | Google Wallet link |
PPINST | Installed - "true" or "false" |
Drop these into a Mailchimp campaign to give each contact a button to their own pass - see the Add install buttons to your emails section on the manage page.
Use PPURL as the button link in your welcome email. It's the personal install link, so the pass is created the moment that contact clicks - nobody gets a pass they never asked for.
Tags and segments for targeting
PocketPass imports your audience's tags and saved segments so you can target notifications and write template rules - see Lists, tags and segments.
Mailchimp's API returns tags reliably, but does not always expose newer saved segments. If a saved segment doesn't show up in PocketPass, recreate that targeting as a Mailchimp tag - tags always sync. There's more on this in Lists, tags and segments.
Pull your contacts in
Use Refresh customers on the Mailchimp manage page to import your audience into the Customers directory. Run it after connecting and any time you want to pick up new contacts.
Events you can trigger on
PocketPass fires two events back to Mailchimp as passes come and go:
pass_installedpass_removed
Use them to trigger a Customer Journey - pass_installed is the moment a link you sent becomes a real pass holder.
