Every pass has its own install page. Send someone that link, or let them scan its QR code, and they can save the pass in a couple of taps.
What they see
The install page is deliberately plain: your logo and name, the pass name, a large QR code, and two buttons - Add to Apple Wallet and Add to Google Wallet.
There's nothing to sign up for and no account to create.
On iPhone
- Open the install link on the iPhone (tap it in a message, or scan the QR with the camera).
- Tap Add to Apple Wallet.
- The pass preview appears - tap Add in the corner.
- It's now in the Wallet app.
On Android
- Open the install link on the phone.
- Tap Add to Google Wallet.
- Confirm when Google Wallet asks.
- It's saved.
Getting the link to people
- Send it - email, SMS, WhatsApp, whatever you already use.
- Show the QR code - on a screen, a receipt, a poster, a printed card. Scanning with the phone camera opens the install page.
- Link to it from your own site after a purchase or booking.
- Publish an issuance form so people can request their own pass without you sending anything.
You'll find the link and QR code on each pass's page in Passes.
The questions people actually ask
"I tapped Add and nothing happened"
They're almost certainly on a computer. Wallet passes can only be added from a phone - the install page will load on a laptop, but the buttons have nowhere to save to.
Ask them to open the same link on their phone. This is by far the most common cause.
"I don't have the Wallet app"
They do. Apple Wallet is built into every iPhone and Google Wallet into modern Android phones. It can be moved into a folder or off the home screen - searching the phone for "Wallet" finds it.
"I deleted the pass - can I get it back?"
Yes. The same install link still works. Send it again and they can re-add it.
"Can I have it on two phones?"
Yes. Open the same install link on the second phone. Both copies update.
"Does it cost anything?"
No.
"Do I need to be online?"
To add the pass, yes. Once it's saved it's on the phone and displays offline - useful at venues with poor signal. Updates arrive when the phone next has a connection.
If someone's stuck, the fastest fix is almost always "open the link on your phone rather than your computer". Ask that first - it resolves most cases before any real troubleshooting starts.
When a pass won't install at all
If the install page itself says the pass isn't available, the pass has been voided, deactivated or has passed its expiry date. See Pass statuses and lifecycle.
If the person has the pass but it shows the wrong details, see Why isn't a pass updating?.
