Wallets and devices
Do customers need to install an app?
No. Passes live in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, which are already built into iPhones and Android phones. One tap and the pass is saved. See How wallet passes work.
Does it work on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. Every pass works on both; the phone uses whichever wallet it has. The two present passes slightly differently - see How wallet passes work.
A customer says the Add button does nothing
They're on a computer. Passes can only be added from a phone. See How customers add a pass.
Does it cost the customer anything?
No.
Can they have the pass on more than one phone?
Yes - open the same install link on each. All copies update.
Issuing passes
How do passes get to customers?
You send them the install link, or show its QR code. PocketPass creates passes; it doesn't email them. See A customer didn't get their pass.
What are my options for issuing at volume?
An issuance form if customers should claim their own, or the API if your own systems know who should get one.
Can I delete a pass?
You can void it, which is permanent, or deactivate it, which is reversible, or archive it to tidy your list. See Pass statuses and lifecycle.
How many templates do I need?
One per kind of pass, not one per customer. Tiers and variants are usually field values on one template. See Pass templates: the basics.
Updates and messaging
What happens when I change a pass?
The copy in the customer's wallet updates by itself, usually within a minute or two. No re-send. See Live pass updates.
Can I message people who hold a pass?
Yes. A notification appears on the lock screen and is kept on the back of the pass. See Sending a notification.
Can I message only some of them?
Yes - by pass template and group tag. See Choosing an audience.
Can I schedule a message?
Yes, though scheduled times are read in the server's timezone. See Scheduling notifications.
Can I unsend a notification?
No. You can cancel one that's still scheduled, but once sending starts it can't be recalled. Check the audience count before you send.
Developers
Is there an API?
Yes - everything the dashboard does. See API quickstart and the full reference.
How do I avoid creating duplicate passes?
Set an extId on every pass. Creation becomes idempotent, so retries are safe. See External IDs and idempotency.
What's the rate limit?
600 requests per 60 seconds per API key. See API errors and rate limits.
Can I be told when someone installs a pass?
Yes, with webhooks. See Webhooks.
Account
How do I add colleagues?
Under Settings → Team. They need a PocketPass login first. See Team members and roles.
I belong to two accounts and can't find my passes
Check the account switcher at the top of the sidebar. Everything you see belongs to the selected account. See Working across multiple accounts.
Someone left - what should I do?
Remove them from the team and revoke any API keys they had access to. Removing a person doesn't revoke keys. See Team members and roles.
